The Denver Broncos are in a great position entering the season finale. The Broncos still have to win in order to clinch the No. 1 playoff seed, but the Los Angeles Chargers are resting Justin Herbert and other players.
The Broncos have already clinched the AFC West and a top-three seed. If they defeat the Los Angeles Chargers (11-5) in Week 18, Denver will clinch the No. 1 seed in the conference, ensuring home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
Losses for the Packers and Chargers on Saturday were wins for the Bears and Broncos as the NFL playoff standings take shape.
The turnaround is worth digging into because the Broncos look like entirely different units when you turn on the tape, and the stats and analytics back it up, with one exception: the run game. The Broncos lost J.K. Dobbins in that game against the Raiders, and he was their most consistent and reliable running back.
While the league record seems to be out of reach, Denver is up to 64 sacks, which is a new franchise record, breaking the 63-sack mark that was set last season. With one game remaining, the Broncos have an opportunity to put an exclamation point on the new franchise record.
