Stephen Colbert's studio audience couldn't hold back their honest reaction upon learning that the Kennedy Center was being renamed to include Donald Trump. While taping his monologue for Thursday's broadcast for "The Late Show,
Colbert also noted that it’s “a really big deal for networks to just hand over their primetime slots on such short notice.” He referenced CBS, in particular, explaining that the three-hour season finale of Survivor Season 49 was interrupted because of Trump.
"Wow. I gotta say, if my company's got that kind of green, I'm sure they can afford to uncancel one of their best shows," the host said.
The entertainment industry was stunned when CBS announced in July that the liberal-leaning "Late Show with Stephen Colbert" would end in 2026.
He also took some jabs at the current political climate under the Trump administration, like the media’s political payouts and Colbert’s own cancellation. The entire bit had the loose, slightly unhinged charm that Colbert’s best holiday sketches depend on.
The broadcast late-night shows are dark this week for the holiday but they were on President Donald Trump’s mind as he railed against the hosts again on Truth social Tuesday night before wishing everyone Merry Christmas.
