Denver broke a record daily high set 70 years ago on Monday, and forecasters with the National Weather Service in Boulder said temperatures could still get warmer before the day’s over.
While Dec. 22, 2025, saw the second-hottest temperature ever recorded in December, Dec. 22 has also seen the second coldest temperature ever recorded in Colorado. In 1990, it was 25 below!
It likely comes as no surprise, but the data confirm: It was one of the warmest-ever years in Colorado. The state saw the fourth-warmest fall ever recorded, and through November, it’s been the 9th warmest year overall, in 131 years of recorded weather data.
If the data is confirmed next week, it will mean that four of the past five years will be among the hottest ever recorded in the country.
Through Dec. 10, the average temperature in Phoenix for 2025 is 77.7 degrees. If the year ended today — hypothetically — that would make 2025 the second-hottest year in Phoenix history.
The weather is not feeling at all like Christmas as Denver set a new daily heat record on Monday and will likely see its warmest-ever Christmas Day.
